If you are interested in donating your vehicle to charity, you should be familiar with the laws regarding car donations by state. On a federal level, the IRS allows you to take up to a $500 deduction for a car donation. For example, New Jersey has an organization called Car Angel which accepts donations. Another example of a car donation service is Cars for Causes which is in California. Services like these will usually pick up and haul away your unwanted vehicle absolutely free. They will also provide you with all the documentation you need to get your tax deduction.

Car donation services will usually even let you choose which charities from their list that you would like to help with your donation. When you are looking for information about car donations by state, you should always make sure that the organization you are considering is properly licensed as a nonprofit organization. Also, you should find out how much of the proceeds from your donated car actually go towards charitable causes. In the case of Cars for Causes, 100 percent of the proceeds go to the charity. The policies and procedures of car donation services may vary as may state regulations on this subject.
